Darlington Finish Off City

City had most of the possession, but failed to create anything against a poor Darlington team.

Darlo took the surprise lead in the 17th minute. Justin Whittle's block sent the ball up in the air, and Barry Conlon won the header against Paul Musselwhite coming off his line.

Minutes before half time City came very close to equalising. Mark Greaves got his head on a corner, and Adrian Caceres hit the bar with a flick off the back of his head.

Caceres was replaced by Kyle Lightbourne 7 minutes into the second half, making his home debut.

City's luck was summed up in the 58th minute when David Norris was brought down just outside the box after running through the middle. With all of the players up in the Darlington half ready for the City free kick, the referee brandished a yellow card to Norris for diving.

David Beresford came off the bench for Lee Philpott, and soon created a chance. His cross from the left was knocked down by Lightbourne to Ryan Williams, who fired his shot just wide.

City found an equaliser in the 67th minute courtesy of Gary Alexander. David Norris' long pass found Alexander unmarked in the area, and he slotted past Porter.

But Ian Clark got the winner for Darlington 10 minutes from time. City pushed out after defending a corner, but lost possession to Rundle who played the ball through for Clark who calmly placing the ball past Musselwhite.

With the crowd leaving in masses, Musselwhite made a great save from Atkinson, but there was no way back for City who have dropped to 11th in the table.

City line-up (4-4-2): Musselwhite; Petty, Whittle, Greaves, Van Blerk; Williams (Whitmore), Sneekes, Norris, Philpott (Beresford); Alexander, Caceres (Lightbourne).
Un-used subs: Glennon, Edwards.
