Joseph and Thelwell were first choice players for Taylor at the start of the season before respective knee and foot injuries left them sidelined.

However, the current back four of Justin Whittle, Damien Delaney, Richard Hinds and Andy Dawson have played together for the last seven games, and conceded just five goals. Taylor may be reluctant to break up this winning combination, which could leave Thelwell and Joseph out for even longer.

The City boss said: "Alton and Marc are key players for us and I know how frustrated they have been to sit out the last few games. They've worked hard on their fitness though, and it will be great to see them back.
"Obviously, they are going to add to the competition. People are going to look at the situation and say - 'blimey, how are you going to pick a side'.
"To be honest, I never have a problem. You can't have too many quality players but Alton and Marc know they've got a fight on their hands."

The pair will return to action in Wednesday's reserve match against Barnsley, which is the last ever senior game at Boothferry Park before the stiffs move to Church Road, North Ferriby.
