The centre back suffered a ligament problem, which is yet to be fully diagnosed, in the 1-1 draw at the New Den.

He will definitely miss the game at Cardiff on Saturday, but it could rule the current captain out for even longer than that.

With Danny Coles out for the rest of the season, it leaves City thin on the ground for centre backs to replace the former Port Vale player. Damien Delaney has been playing at left back recently, but will have to move inside to partner Leon Cort as he did on Tuesday.

Alton Thelwell's timely return from injury happened at Millwall, coming on for Collins at half time and filling in at left back. Fellow right backs Mark Lynch and Scott Wiseman are also fit to offer Peter Taylor options, but it will mean playing someone out of position to cover the left back spot. Andy Dawson and loan signing Alan Rogers are still a couple of weeks away from fitness.

6'4" striker Jon Parkin, who scored his fourth goal in his sixth game for the club at Millwall, has even played at centre back earlier in his career, but is unlikely to be called on as emergency cover.
