The 30-year-old former England international was sent off for the first time in his career in last night's local derby with Doncaster Rovers, which went 2-1 in City's favour. Rovers player Jermaine McSporran was also sent off for a second booking from the incident, which happened off the ball.

But City are hoping the referee will look at it again on video to save Barmby from getting an automatic three match ban.

Tigers manager Peter Taylor said: "It was a little bit harsh. I'll look at the video again and I've asked the referee to do the same because Nick is saying he didn't nut McSporran.
"To be fair, you've got to keep your discipline but Nick felt their player tried to hurt him first which is why he reacted like he did."

Barmby won't miss any games until his case has been heard.

Captain Ian Ashbee is also facing suspension after getting his fifth yellow card of the season, which resulted in the free kick Rovers scored their first half equaliser from. That is set to come into place in a week's time, so he should be available for the Huddersfield and Stockport games before sitting out the FA Cup Third Round tie with Colchester on 8th January.
