The annual cup stays with City for a third successive year thanks to a Stuart Elliott winner two minutes from time.

Steve McPhee got City off to the perfect start when he got his first goal in black and amber five minutes into the match. He raced on to Boaz Myhill's long kick out, rounded goalkeeper Paul Sharp and knocked in with his left foot.

McPhee had another two chances to score, while Jason Price also got forward and Curtis Woodhouse hit the woodwork with a curled shot.

Ferriby levelled before half time as ex-Tiger Mike Price's inswinging corner found its way in, and took the lead in the second half after Sergio Leite dropped a cross.

Tigers player-coach Steve Butler had one disallowed for offside before Stuart Elliott made it 2-2 with a typical finish, but the home side went in front again from a free kick that City couldn't clear.

They then gave up that lead when a defender turned Elliott's hit over his own keeper. Elliott then popped up two minutes from time to latch on to Scott Wiseman's square ball and blast it into the bottom corner to settle it at 4-3.

First half line-up: Myhill; Lynch, Byron, Delaney, Edge; Price, Ashbee, Woodhouse, Ellison; McPhee, Barmby.
Second half line-up: Leite; Wiseman, Cort, Joseph, Dawson; Fry, Green, Andrews, Elliott; Fagan, Butler.
