City v Mansfield: Head to Head

Last updated : 04 March 2002 By Andy Beill
Mansfield have won only two of their 21 fixtures at Boothferry Park. The last victory was in the Old Second Division in 1977, and they also came out on top in 1957.

Since City were relegated to Division Three in 1996, they've played Mansfield every season. City have picked up 9 points from a possible 15 in those five games, with the Stags only finding the net twice in that time.

The last meeting at Boothferry Park was in February 2001. Kevin Francis put City ahead, before Simon Corden equalised four minutes later. A second half Rodney Rowe penalty sealed the points for the Tigers.

The first ever meeting in Hull was in 1933, one of City's promotion seasons. Top scorer William McNaughten bagged a hat-trick, while England international Russell Wainscoat added another in a 4-1 romp.

In City's promotion season of '66 former Mansfield great Ken Wagstaff scored a brace for his new club. Ray Henderson and Ken Houghton also scored in a 4-0 win.

At Field Mill the Stags have fared better. They've won 12, including a 4-2 thrashing back in September. City have won 4, while 6 have been ties.
