He says "it's a case of cutting down six to four" as he looks to tailor his squad for next season's campaign.

Jon Parkin and Darryl Duffy have only been at the club since January and their futures with the club both look to be safe.

Billy Paynter has also been with City for a short period of time, but has only made 12 starts since November, scoring 3 times. That could make him a possible leaver, with a loan return to Port Vale rumoured.

Ben Burgess and Steve McPhee are both expected to return for pre-season training after long term injuries. If they fail to make full recoveries they could be on the way out.

Craig Fagan is the other striker in the squad, and although he was involved in 43 games last season, he has had fallings out with Taylor and often used as a winger due to his poor goal return; he scored just 5 times in the Championship, and 4 prior to that in League One for City.

Taylor can also add Nick Barmby, Stuart Elliott and Kevin Ellison to those 6, making his squad top heavy in the forward department.

Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic's interest in goalkeeper Boaz Myhill has resurfaced, and according to reports could be set to have a £2million bid accepted. Manchester City won't pursue their interest in the 23-year-old though after signing Shrewsbury keeper Joe Hart.
