City Take On Latics

The first round of the competition - now under Carling's sponsorship - will be played on Wednesday 13th August, 4 days after the season opener against Darlington.

City go to the JJB Stadium for the first ever time. Previously, honours have been even at their old Springfield Stadium, with 2 wins a piece and 2 draws from the six meetings.

Jason De Vos - captain of last season's Division Two champions - believes City will provide a "very stern test", but is happy to have got a home draw.

In last year's Worthington Cup the Latics won at Northampton in the first round, and went on to claim three Premiership scalps in West Brom, Manchester City and Fulham, before losing to Blackburn in the 5th Round.

City's Cup exploits didn't last as long, with Leicester winning 4-2 after extra time at Boothferry Park. Gary Alexander and Ian Ashbee were on target for Jan Molby's side.

Elsewhere in this year's draw, Grimsby go to league newcomers Doncaster Rovers, while Scunthorpe host Oldham.
