A left-back, a midfielder and a striker are still required for Jan Molby's new look team.

Pearson confirmed that City are one of a number of teams in talks with Crewe defender Shaun Smith, while Cambridge midfielder Ian Ashbee is set to sign when his contract expires. There is less news on the identity of the centre forward, though the City chairman says that the £100,000 offer for Wolves attacker Colin Larkin is still on the table.

He told the HDM: "We're hoping Smith will sign for us, although we know we face competition.
"The Ashbee situation is still ongoing while we'd like to sign Larkin, but Wolves know we are not prepared to increase our offer.
"We have other irons in the fire and we are looking at several other strikers.
"I'm determined to try and bring in the players Jan wants - and the players our fans deserve.
"We have already signed four players and we hope to add at least three more.
"The new signings - combined with the players who did well last season - should lead to a successful and competitive squad."

Meanwhile he said that Mike Edwards and Mark Greaves are going nowhere, but admits Oxford did make an offer for the pair earlier this summer.

He said: "Oxford did contact us but we've heard nothing from them since and there's nothing further to say at this stage."
