The 19-year-old forward started his career as a trainee at Southampton. He was bought by Southend two years ago for £10,000. In his time there he has scored only three goals from 16 starts and 15 appearances off the bench.

Peter Taylor signed him on loan last season while he was manager of Brighton, and he found the net once from 7 starts and 5 sub appearances. He returned to the Withdean Stadium for another loan spell this season, failing to score from three appearances for the Seagulls.

Now manager at Boothferry Park, Taylor moves for Webb for a second time, and the 6ft striker has signed a year and a half long deal.

Having recently lost Michael Branch - who has gone back to Wolves after his loan spell finished - Taylor now has six attackers available to him again.

Webb could be included in the squad on Saturday for the last ever match at Boothferry Park against Darlington. However, he faces competition from Gary Alexander, Phil Jevons, Stuart Elliott, Gary Bradshaw, and the fit-again Lawrie Dudfield.
