The Hornets beat Hull 1-0 at Vicarage Road (pictured), keeping the Tigers in the bottom three. The goal, scored in the 83rd minute was credited to a Dawson own goal. They are next up against Southampton at the KCOM Stadium this Sunday.

Despite their relegation woes Hull boss Mike Phelan firmly believes that his Tigers side can stay positive a dig themselves out of trouble;

“I feel really disappointed for the group because I thought we went about our task well,” said Phelan. “We tried to be solid and also a threat. We were competitive and more than in the game but we suffered a cruel blow. “We were probably a bit too deep inside our own box when the cross came in and when the ball flashes around like it did, it only needs to hit somebody to cause you a problem. I feel for Michael because he’s played exceptionally well, but there’s nothing we can do about it.

“Watford came out of the traps quickly at the start and looked to exploit our left side which we expected but I thought we stuck at things well and deserved to take something from the game. “The three at the back played well and the wing backs performed as well as could be expected. We just need that little bit of quality from them when we get further up the field. We’re having opportunities to cause problems for teams, but if you’re not tidy enough with the final ball you can’t hurt them. We need to improve that aspect of our play. “

There’s a lot of disappointment around after this result but as a staff we have to help the players to keep going. There are more games coming up and hopefully our luck will change. We have to stay positive to pick up points.”
