City have bought Ryan France for £15,000 from Unibond Premier League side Alftreton Town. The right-winger has already scored five goals this season for the Reds - who are top of the league at the moment - and signs a two-year contract with City. The deal includes two sell-on clauses so Alfreton will receive money if the player moves on for a fee.
He is a newcomer to professional football after four years at North Street - playing 199 games - but has attracted interest from league sides. Town chairman Wayne Bradley said France turned down a "very big" Division One side in order to join City.
Alfreton may look to Chris Bettney to fill his boots. The 25-year-old - who played 34 games for City between 1997-99 - has scored three times this season for them.
