City Make Increased Ricketts Bid

Swansea City had said they won't be selling any of their star players, and turned down a £300,000 bid from City for the right-footed full back.

However, Phil Parkinson is keen to get his man, and a new offer of £325,000 has been tabled.

Ricketts, 24, was born in Aylesbury, but qualifies to play for the Welsh national team through his grandmother. He's won 7 caps so far. The 6'1" defender began his career at Oxford United, before joining Telford in 2003, then Swansea a year later. He's made 86 league appearances in two seasons with the Swans, scoring once, plus a further 19 games in cup competitions. He's under contract for another two years, but that is unlikely to deter Parkinson from aiming to make him part of a new look City defence.

Centre back Michael Turner signed from Brentford for £350,000 on Wednesday, and Sam Collins and Danny Coles will also be returning to the squad after long term injuries. Damien Delaney will also be hoping to return to his preferred centre back position, while Ricketts will add to the competition for the full back places with Alton Thelwell, Mark Lynch and Andy Dawson. Leon Cort, a mainstay at the back over the last two years, won't be a part of it any longer after his £1.25m move to Crystal Palace, where his brother Carl Cort looks set to move, while right-back Scott Wiseman is out on loan to Rotherham until the new year.
