The Shrews finished bottom of Division 3, and Rodgers will be keen to leave Gay Meadow and stay in the Football League, despite still having two years remaining on his contract.

The 21-year-old was one of the league's top scorers last season with 20 goals to his name in all competitions, and is thought to have a pricetag of around £200,000 on his head.

The Birmingham-born striker has scored 50 goals since coming through Shrewsbury's youth system, giving him an average of almost a goal every two games. However, he comes with his fair share of disciplinary problems as well, picking up 24 yellow cards and 3 reds in just the last two seasons.

After a bid for Peterborough's Leon McKenzie was rejected, Peter Taylor is looking to add another forward to his ranks to compliment Jamie Forrester, Ben Burgess, Danny Allsopp, Stuart Elliott, Clayton Donaldson and Daniel Webb.

Meanwhile, rumours are again rife that prodigal son Dean Windass will return to Hull after he was dropped for Sheffield United's play-off final defeat yesterday. The 34-year-old is out of contract.
