City peppered the visitors' goal throughout the first half but couldn't manage to find the back of the net.

The U's took the lead against the run of play in the 38th minute. Stuart Elliott appealed for a foul after being brought down but was turned away by the underfire referee Mr Cowburn. The ball was then brought out to Tudor on the right wing, whose cross was met by Tom Youngs to make it 1-0.

In stoppage time Dean Keates had an effort that summed up City's first half. The midfielder worked an angle and his shot hit the inside of the post, only to come back out to goalkeeper Shaun Marshall.

However, City's fortunes changed at the start of the second half, with two incidents in five minutes changing the game. Around 30 seconds after kick off, Stuart Elliott and Adam Tann both jumped for a high ball, and the referee adjudged Tann to have caught Elliott in the face with an elbow as the Northern Irishman fell to the floor. The defender was given his marching orders, but things went from bad to worse for the visitors four minutes later.

Lawrie Dudfield was brought down inside the box and although the referee waved away the penalty protest, Richie Appleby was then taken out as he picked up the loose ball. The referee pointed to the spot for that foul, and Jamie Forrester sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1.

City continued to look the better side, but failed to make the most of the numerical advantage as Cambridge held on for a point.
