City Drawn Against Newcastle

Last updated : 30 November 2008 By Andy Beill
The draw was made this afternoon following Histon's 1-0 win against Leeds United. City were drawn to play Newcastle, with the tie likely to be played on 3rd January at the KC Stadium.

It will be the first meeting since City won 2-1 at St James' Park in the Premier League in September, when Marlon King scored both of City's goals and Danny Guthrie was sent off for breaking Craig Fagan's leg in the closing minutes. The next league meeting won't be until March.

The fixture falls between City's last of 2008, the televised game at home to Aston Villa on Tuesday 30th December, and the trip to Everton on 10th January.

City have failed to progress beyond the Third Round stage since 1989, when Liverpool fought back to win 2-3 at Boothferry Park in the Fifth Round.

The following season, Newcastle beat City 1-0 at Boothferry Park in the Third Round in the most recent of 5 ties between the two teams. City won just one of them, in 1930 at St James' Park.
