The 25-year-old left winger suffered the injury late on in today's 2-1 win over Huddersfield, having earlier equalised for City. That was his 23rd goal of the season for City; his 12th in the last 9 games.

But he's now expected to be out for around six weeks, with the trip to promotion rivals Luton on 12th February a possible target for his return. He'll have the operation as soon as possible after being taken to hospital after today's match.

The injury was caused by the elbow of a Huddersfield player catching him in the face when challenging for a ball in the air, and Peter Taylor says he'll be looking at the video to see if action should be taken against the offending player.

Taylor may also be looking at the transfer market to bring someone in to cover Elliott's absence. He does have the likes of Michael Keane, Stuart Green, Andy Dawson and Nick Barmby in his squad already who could play in that position.
