Instead, Colchester United will come to the KC Stadium. The tie will be played on Saturday 8th January when City were due to take on Chesterfield in the league. That fixture is yet to be re-arranged.

It will be City's third home game in the competition this year after beating Morecambe and Macclesfield in the first two rounds at the KC Stadium, while it will be Colchester's third away draw. They drew 1-1 at Mansfield in the First Round before beating them 4-1 in a replay, and then won 5-2 at Rushden & Diamonds yesterday.

City and Colchester have never met in any cup competition before, and haven't even met in the league for 7 seasons. The last match finished 4-3 to Colchester at Layer Road in April 1998, while the last meeting in Hull went City's way in a 3-1 win at Boothferry Park. The two teams will play each other again before the Cup tie though, with City going there in the league on Saturday. They currently lie 13th in the League One table.

Elsewhere in today's draw, Premiership leaders Chelsea will host Scunthorpe United. Cup holders Manchester United play Exeter City at Old Trafford, while non-league Yeading are at home to Newcastle United.
