The left-sided midfielder certainly caught the eye of the City management team, who may look to sign him on a short-term contract.
Russell said: "He's got some nice touches and took both goals very well. I'll sit down with the chairman and see what we can do.
"The lad's fitness was a bit down but that's to be expected when you're not playing first-team football."
He's currently contracted to Southampton until the end of the season, but they have told him they do not want to keep him on, so if personal terms can be agreed then City will have a second Aussie on their books.
