Ben Burgess - 18-goal hero facing a long battle with cruciate ligament damage
The 22-year-old suffered a cruciate ligament injury to his knee in a challenge with Huddersfield goalkeeper Paul Rachubka in April. Such an injury could have seen him back in action again by Christmas, but instead it looks like he'll be out until next season. However, Peter Taylor has played down the possibility of it being career-threatening to his top striker.

He said: "When we were first told we were told it could be that but the physios knew very quickly it was going to be 12 months. We kept it as low key as possible.
"But we are very confident that it will be 12 months and 12 months only."

City have already signed West Brom forward Delroy Facey, and Taylor is still on after another new player to cover Burgess until his return from injury. However, he has been unsuccessful in signing Lee Peacock who is Sheffield Wednesday-bound and Steve MacLean who looks set to join Bristol City in a £150,000 deal.
