Burgess Has Further Surgery

He's one of three players missing in action for tonight's friendly at Dagenham & Redbridge. Craig Fagan and Stuart Green both miss the game because of sore hamstrings, but should be available as pre-season continues next week.

Burgess though has had his knee cartilage trimmed which will sideline him for around two weeks. He spent a year out with a broken leg suffered in April 2004, so may take some time to regain 100% fitness. The centre forward's a possible doubt for the 6th August league season kick-off now that he will be two weeks behind the rest of the squad, but Peter Taylor has Steve McPhee, Nick Barmby and Craig Fagan to call upon.

Burgess may make it back in time for the final pre-season game, at home to Bolton on 30th July. He has only played 45 minutes, in the opening friendly at Winterton, since returning from the summer break.
