City have paid £450,000 for the 29-year-old centre back - the highest transfer fee ever disclosed by the club. The previous record was the £350,000 paid to Brentford just over a year ago for Michael Turner, the man Brown could either partner or replace in the Tigers' defence.

6ft Brown, formerly of Ipswich and Watford, has signed a 3-year contract. He follows Richard Garcia in moving from Colchester to Hull this summer.

Meanwhile, City have announced that a bid for Sheffield United forward Christian Nade has been accepted, while Ipswich striker Alan Lee is also linked.
