The Tykes defeated Swansea City on penalties in today's final at the Millennium Stadium. Paul Hayes opened the scoring for the South Yorkshire side in the 19th minute, before Rory Fallon and Andy Robinson gave the Swans a half time lead. Daniel Nardiello levelled things in the 62nd minute, and no more goals followed in normal time or extra time, taking the game to a penalty shoot-out. Swansea had one saved and one off target, while Barnsley scored all of theirs to win 4-3.

Sunderland, West Brom and Birmingham play Championship football next season after relegation from the Premiership.
