Coventry midfielder Michael Doyle converted a 21st minute penalty after David Livermore fouled, and Leon McKenzie made it 2-0 in the 34th minute. City went all out attack in the second half but failed to pull any goals back.

Southend were the only team in the bottom 6 not to lose today. They twice came from behind to draw with Leicester, Alan McCormack making it 2-2 in stoppage time. They remain 2nd from bottom, now a point ahead of Leeds, who had a late comeback of their own today. They trailed 0-3 at home to Sheffield Wednesday, playing with ten men, before Owls defender Lee Bullen put the ball into his own net and Richard Cresswell scored against his former team, but it finished 2-3.

QPR lost 2-1 at Ipswich. Alan Lee and ex-Tiger Jon Walters scored for Ipswich before Paul Furlong's consolation goal, stemming the tide of 5 straight defeats ahead of their visit to the KC Stadium on Tuesday. QPR, meanwhile, stay 3rd from bottom, with their goal difference just one worse than City's as both teams remain on 35 points.

After leading 2-1 at half time, Luton lost 2-3 to Wolves.

Barnsley lost 1-3 at home to Norwich, with all four goals coming in the first half.
