Kingston-Upon-Hull is situated in the East Riding of Yorkshire in the north-east of England. Its only ever professional football club is Hull City.

Hull City was founded in 1904. They are nicknamed the Tigers, and usually referred to by home fans as 'City'. The home kit is, and almost always has been, predominantly black and amber.

The team has spent most of its time in the second and third levels of the English league. Until promotion to the Premiership in 2008, Kingston-Upon-Hull was the largest city in the UK (though not the largest in Europe) never to have had its own top flight football team. Promotion was achieved when Hull City made their only appearance at Wembley to date, winning the Championship play-off final 1-0 against Bristol City on 24th May, 2008. The Tigers never appeared at the old Wembley Stadium, having failed to reach an FA Cup or League Cup final.

One of Hull City's true claims to fame is taking part in the first ever penalty shoot-out used to decide a game. This happened in the Watney Cup semi-final in 1970, and the Tigers lost the shoot-out to Manchester United.

Well known ex-players include Billy Bremner, Roy Carroll, Raich Carter, Brian Horton, Emlyn Hughes, Brian Marwood, Steve McClaren, Danny Mills, Jay-Jay Okocha, Garry Parker, Stuart Pearson, Don Revie and David Rocastle.

Hull City has numerous rival clubs including Leeds United, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday in Yorkshire and Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United south of the Humber, but the club's main rival has tended to vary through history depending on each team's placing in the leagues.
